An average documentation library consists of about a dozen publications, which may be produced once or twice during a 12-month period and additionally may appear in a variety of foreign languages. The publications themselves are printed with full-color covers and inside texts of one or two colors. A wide range of fields are involved in the creation and production of a finished book: technical writing, editing, graphic design, marketing strategy, pre-press, printing, cutting, folding and fitting and much more.

A library containing 1000 copies of 10 different titles, where each title contains an average of 500 pages, results in some 5 million printed pages. Today, complete libraries can be reproduced digitally. Aside from choosing the correct application for this task, there is a need for appropriate packaging and creation of short instructional guides, CD label design and related items.
